How great would it be if Steve Carell and Steve Colbert, two of the hottest comedy stars going right now, did an all-out sketch show together? It would be hilarious. It would be amazing. It would be cancelled after eight episodes.

While all of you were mourning over your gushers about the cancellation of My So Called Life, a small group of my Jr High friends (read: three) and I were spending our lunch period squirting milk out of our noses in fits of laughter discussing our favorite new show, The Dana Carvey Show. The concept was simple: Dana Carvey characters and an endless menu of mediocre impressions with a couple obscure but talented supporting cast members mixed in for variety. It was simple, buy hey, so were we and we loved it.

    Of course they canceled it.

Until yesterday, I had completely forgotten about Dana Carvey and his show until I happened to see it pop up on the video site Hulu. After watching the above clip, I realized that twelve years later two of those soon to be unemployed actors were now the stars of the biggest comedies on television, The Office and The Colbert Report. From supporting roles on a cancled sketch comedy show to the leading roles of their own hit series, Steve and Steve are a living reminders that “Failure is not fatal”.

Let’s just pray my streak of favorite shows being canceled doesn’t extend to Steve and Steve, or I’ll be the one crying over my gushers.

Check out a clip of Steve and Steve doing their thing before any of us could appreciate it.
