Who wants to watch me break a World Record at Pat’s & Geno’s this Weekend?

Stop by Pat’s and Geno’s playground this Friday, September 19th, to watch us break the World Record for the longest running kickball game in history!!!

On September 19th, 2008, a group of volunteers from the Helping Hand Rescue Mission, including me, will attempt to set the World Record for the longest game of kickball ever played. Our group from Philadelphia will attempt to overtake the 24 hour record that was set in a 2005 game in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Kyle Korver Foundation is sponsoring the game which will run from 7PM Friday September 19th past 7PM on Saturday night, September 20.

Our group has been working with children living in the low-income housing complexes in North Philadelphia. These young people often come from broken homes and are considered at-risk children. In a city where the high school graduation rate is about 50 percent, and minority crime is on the rise, we are attempting to stand in the gap for these children that we love.

We are a Christian group committed to living our faith and passionate about helping inner city kids. We want to develop a learning center that would serve for after school programming, as well as Bible studies. As much as anything, we just want a safe place for the young people at night.

We have a large storage room at the Helping Hand Rescue Mission, but we need to raise money to make this a usable place for the young people. We are hoping to raise $10,000 through this event to renovate the room. The Kyle Korver Foundation will generously match the money that we raise.

We are asking for financial support through our quirky game. We will have 2 teams of 20, and the players will be on the field the entire time! The game will run continually through the night and past the 24 hour mark. This game will be very physically demanding over the course of the day, but it is a symbol that our group is willing to do whatever it takes to help these children.

We are asking for donations of any amount, and are truly appreciative of your support.

Checks can be made out to:

“The Kyle Korver Foundation” and mailed to:

I hope our marathon goes a little better than the last one in South Philly …
